It’s been a great summer. Here at Refrain, we’re bringing you some great photos of events that happened in the region.  This is what happened on hot night at the Nestor in Fargo. The fifth annual Nestfest was the first Refrain Presents Event this year.  It was a wonderful buffet of eight musical talents, with some of them swapping players on stage and swapping instruments.

I’ll try to take you through some of it.  It was hot–in the 90s and the Nestor pulled everything inside. Becaus of that, the lineup was switched around a bit.

Classical Chill

Starting out was Classical Chill. Drummer Alec Koch was working that night, sitting in not only on this group but also the Fillers and Nick Taylor.

Tom Johnson from The Johnson Family Band was pulled in to join Nick Taylor, the Fillers, and Inside Out Strings. We usually see him playing a dobro, but here he was was doing double duty on guitar and pedal steel. Sweet stuff.

Nick Taylor came on board and brought some friends from the Fillers along with Tom Johnson.

Joey Kuntz added some very sweet blues harmonica licks.

Later, Joey charmed everybody when he did his set with the Fillers.

The Insideout Strings were up next.

Then the biggest surprise of the night for some of us at Refrain was the reggae band Heavy Iz the Head, composed of members of The Quarterly and the Legionnaires, plus a new bass player who just laid the foundations. Their version of “I Shall Be Released” reggae-style was outstanding!

Elephant Revival from Nederland CO got all of their truckload of musical instruments on stage and then let us have it.
Bonnie’s etheral voice captured the audience. Bridget’s fiddle made us want to dance and Sage’s songs moved us.
Dango and Dan added voices and more instruments as everyone, except for Bridget, swapped instruments.

Sovereign Sect closed out the night.

It was a wonderful Nestfest. We at Refrain look forward to covering it again next year.
