REFRAIN PRESENTS: Hyentyte Keeps the Party Going
Live Music Alert: TONIGHT, Hyentyte with the Milzovsky Dance Orchestra (formerly Classical Chill) at the Nestor, Fargo ND, 10 pm.
Get out your dancing shoes and head on down to the Nestor to see Hyentyte TONIGHT. This six-piece, soul/funk sensation has been burning a path all through the Northern Plains for the past twelve years. Their tight harmonies and killer musicianship keeps fans coming back.
Mixing reggae and their version of hip hop with bluegrass riffs, solid rock, and even electronic fusion, these guys have played at 10KLF and Bella Sol festivals and continue to be asked back to other regional festivals.
The band has had a core group since high school, consisting of Vinh Nguyen (guitar), Tony Molek (vocals and keys, hand drums), Arthur Begly (guitar), and David Boose (bass). Ryan Morgan was their drummer back then. Then they all split to go to school in various parts of the country, from California to Kansas to the Cities.
“We all kept in touch in college,” said Vinh Nguyen, “and when we all finished, we thought we’d come back and do this thing. That’s the origin of how we started. We were jamming before Hyentyte was around—at talent shows. It was a big deal to us then, and here we are a few years later….All of us are working full time jobs and we’re doing this on the side. We’d like to make it priority number one but unfortunately it does take the priority number two or three because we all have to feed ourselves.”
Some changes have occurred over the years. Ryan Morgan left the band to go to med school, and Marc Ouellette came aboard. They also brought in Louie Brandeiss for auxiliary percussion.
Not only did changes in personnel shape the eclectic sound of the band, their own varied personal musical tastes did also. As they experimented with new musical ideas, the result showed in various incarnations of the band.
