Live Music Alert: Nate Hancock & the Declaration with Pat Lipsiea and Slow Kid, The Nestor, Fargo, Friday Aug 13, 10 pm, $5

Refrain Magazine is proud to present Nate Hancock & The Declaration with Pat Lipsiea and Slow Kid in concert Friday, August 13 at the Nestor. Nate Hancock is touring in support of his debut CD We the People. Normally, Hancock tours and performs as a solo acoustic act in intimate venues and travels with The Declaration for bigger clubs and festivals. The Declaration is really members of the Kory Montgomery Band.

Based in Fayetteville AR, both Hancock and Montgomery joined forces, taking the tour to dates in California, New York City, Denver, and St Paul. This swing through this region is on Hancock’s way to the East Coast again. With a final stop in California, the tour will end back in Arkansas at the end of September.

Hancock’s solo album, We the People, is supported by a number of players. The title cut in particular has Kory Montgomery on guitar and some other members of his band, including Jeremy Ervin on bass, Brad Haj on drums, and Tyler Wright on drums and percussion. Taking the lead guitar slot is Grammy Award winner and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Joey Williams who has played with Robert Randolph and the Family Band and also The Blind Boys of Alabama. Colin Hardaway assists on the verse with Nikki Hill and Heather Allen on backup vocals.

This cut is being offered as a free download, and 10% of ALL proceeds from We the People are donated to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in search of a cure and better treatment. That song and the rest of the album is framed on lyrics written by Nate Hancock and music co-written by Nate Hancock and the members of the Declaration.

Kory Montgomery Band

Though Hancock is hardly known outside of his home state, Kory Montgomery is a talented young blues guitar player who is being eyed by many in the industry. The Kory Montgomery Band has opened for BB King several times, as well as Kenny Wayne Shepard, Earth Wind & Fire, JJ Grey & Mofro, Buddy Guy, Robert Randolph, Hubert Sumlin, The North Mississippi All Stars, and many other national acts.

This young player and his band have been touring all over the nation for the past six years.

Kory Montgomery

Montgomery has an album of his own that he’s hawking and is worth picking up and giving a listen. It’s unpretentious with strong writing, solid instrumentation, and intense solos. Recorded at Winterwood Studios with Eric Schabacker as sound engineer; LA musician Mike Officer as co-producer, and some of the best up and coming musicians from Arkansas to LA collaborating, the CD’s eight originals and one cover sing with some of the deep roots and fresh appeal that could only come out of the Ozarks.

Before Nate Hancock and the Kory Montgomery Band take the stage, local singer/songwriter Pat Lipsiea and beatboxer Slow Kid will take a short set.

Come on out for a night of very different musical genres for your listening pleasure.
